Shark Sweater

In March, you may recall, I fell in love with a shark sweater — stemming from our affection for a rubber shark puppet named Jerry.

I saw it in an antique shop window. The shop was closed, so I had to use my Nancy Drew skills to figure out what it was and where to aquire it.

It was a REMY Shark Sweater. Cashmere. $325 smackers.

Thus I had to love pure and chaste from afar.

Then in July, my nephew and I were discussing what we’d do if we won the lottery. Naturally, my mind went to the $325 REMY Shark Cashmere sweater. But, alas, it was simply out of the question. So far out of reach. My fingers could only graze such a dream.

My nephew turned to me with a cocked brow. Quite seriously he said, “Why don’t you just make one?”

And so, I created my own mockup of their shark design, found a website that prints on demand knitted sweaters… and waited.

My nephew’s confidence is quite wonderful.

peter noone

Peter Noone, from the Herman’s Hermits, was a large part of my middle school 1960s obsession. I checked Facebook Marketplace the other day, and a notification popped up in the corner. Peter Noone was streaming. He started doing this in covid and never stopped, it would seem.
